KODAK PX-35mm - Ei: 100~400
120 - Ei: 125~160
NORMAL dr5 ISO: 125
The new emulsion has made all the difference for this film. The new tests [2002] are stunning. This film goes from one we did not recommend to one we highly recommend. NOTE: We have discovered a great difference between the 35mm and medium format-120 / 220 PX. PX-35mm has shown to be far superior than the medium format-PX. While both formats have the same normal iso in dr5, the 35mm film has a far superior d-max and EI range. For this reason we must separate the films as 2 different films. We will be posting PX-35mm samples soon.
This film runs very well in both DEV-1 & 2. It is brilliantly sharp with a good #1.5~2 grade contrast [35mm version is snappier]. This film reminds us of the old PANITOMIC-X film. PX has a flat overall image quality. It does best in low-key lighting. PX has extreme shadow detail. The dmax in the 35mm film is around 3.50 and the 120 is very low, around 2.75. Px has a slight masking effect in the process.
35-MM:
SHOOT PX @ 125 iso-NORMAL.
EI - 100-400 iso. PX-35mm is brilliantly sharp! The d-max is unlike
-to the extreme - the old emulsion PX. In DEV-1 or 2 it is stunning.
It will handle most all lighting situations but does best in low-key
light.
MEDIUM-FORMAT:SHOOT
PX @ 125 iso-NORMAL.
EI
- 125-160 iso. PX-medium format has the same qualities as the 35mm version
except it's d-max is much less, therefore its EI range is much shorter.
We really only recommend you stay within the 125iso range using medium
format PX. Be sure you use fresh film as age lessens the d-max further.
Even though the d-max is substantially lower than the 35mm, the image
quality holds up and the scans are incredible.
PLEASE USE THE NEW PX EMULSION & FRESH FILM FOR THIS EMULSION. NOTE: While PX 35mm is a hearty film, the 120 is not. DMAX is Susceptible to age in the 120 stock. Use the freshest PX-120 possible and avoid its use in dr5 if it over a year old, even if it is still not outdated. (below sample is 120 PX)
